Plus: ferris wheel in Finland, free bus tours in Jakarta, wellies that can go in your pocket, and David Guetta DJs in the Azores
There can't be many places in Europe with the guest-to-land ratio of Herdade da Nespereira, a beautiful turismo rural in the Alentejo, south-west Portugal. A main house with three bedrooms and four self-catering houses, including a hilltop converted windmill (pictured), are spread across 600 acres of rolling, uncultivated countryside covered in fragrant rock roses, cork trees and wild flowers. Wake to birdsong, loll by the pool, head to the coast (Zambujeira with its pretty village and spectacular beach is a short drive) and fall asleep to a chorus of insects.
